La Dolce Vita Orient Express

Italy, at the pace of a train.

La Dolce Vita Orient Express gives Italian rail travel a new setting. Launched in April 2025 by Orient Express and Arsenale, the train combines 31 cabins with interiors by Milan’s Dimorestudio. Its journeys connect landscapes, regional food and historic places, with time on board treated as part of the destination. The first departure travelled from Rome towards Montalcino’s vineyards.

The design draws on Italy’s creative energy in the 1960s and 1970s. Glossy lacquer, brass, warm colour and layered textiles give the rooms a strong identity. Deep red cabin walls sit alongside lighter living spaces and marble bathrooms, all arranged around the changing view outside.

The view is part of the room

Dimorestudio balances decorative detail with the practical demands of a carriage. Standard suites combine a bed, sofa and sitting area. The signature La Dolce Vita Suite adds distinct living, sleeping and bathing spaces, with Venetian terrazzo and polychrome marble. Windows on both sides keep the landscape present, even when guests settle into the room for an afternoon.

Menus by Heinz Beck draw on regional traditions, while selected stops take the journey beyond the carriage. Itineraries have included Tuscan wine country, historic towns and Sicily; the route depends on the departure chosen. Dining and discovery unfold gradually, with time between stops to watch one setting give way to another.

A suite, a meal and a view become parts of the same experience. This is the contemporary Italian La Dolce Vita Orient Express, with its own interiors and programme. The pleasure lies in travelling through a succession of places, noticing what connects them before arriving at the next destination.
